Guardian reported on April 22 that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to dedicate the largest military aid package to Ukraine to help the country prevent Russian attacks in the air, on land and at sea.
Accordingly, Britain intends to give Ukraine 400 combat vehicles, 162 armored vehicles, 1,600 attack and air defense missiles and about 4 million rounds of ammunition, some other equipment and military assistance worth 500 pounds.
An additional £500 million in aid will be used to provide ammunition, air defense, British-made drones and technical support to the Ukrainian front line.
British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said: `This record military aid package will give Ukraine much needed equipment to deal with Russia and restore peace and stability in Europe.`
`We will never let the world forget the fight for survival that Ukraine is engaged in and with our lasting support they will win,` he said.
Since the conflict in Ukraine broke out, the UK has pledged nearly £12 billion in support to Ukraine, of which £7.1 billion is for military support and the rest is humanitarian and economic support.
`Defending Ukraine against Russia’s ambitions is important for our security and that of all of Europe. If Russia wins in Ukraine, they will not stop at the Polish border,` Prime Minister
He added: `Ukraine is continuing to fight. They need our support now. This aid package will help ensure Ukraine has what it needs to fight Russia. The UK will always have a role to play.
Prime Minister Sunak will visit Poland today, April 23, to discuss with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to discuss European security.
Britain’s new aid package for Ukraine was announced not long after the US House of Representatives approved a nearly 61 billion USD aid package for Kiev after half a year of stagnation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the new aid package will give Ukraine a chance to win the conflict with Russia.
However, Vice Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned that the new aid package `cannot save` Kiev.
