Ukraine talked about Russia throwing a `shock fist` to break through

Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported that Dmitry Likhovy – spokesman for the Tavria strategic and operational group in charge of the southern front of the Ukrainian army – said that from the beginning of March 12, the enemy was active.

Mr. Likhovy said: `Today we are witnessing stronger enemy activity, when from 0:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., there were 11 military clashes across the front line. And since the beginning of the day, 15

The spokesman noted that about two-thirds of the firefights along the entire front line occurred in the area under the responsibility of the Tavria group, adding that the fighting was extremely intense and before the general election.

According to Mr. Likhoviy, the intensity of fighting is taking place fiercely in all directions in the area of responsibility of the Tavria group.

`At the same time, Orekhov and Zaporizhia were also quite tense, Russia attacked with small shock groups but were unsuccessful. However, the more they attacked, the more the battle results showed the enemy’s destruction,` he emphasized.

When asked whether the enemy would create a `shocking punch` to penetrate the Ukrainian defense, Mr. Likhovy answered negatively, the total number of Russian troops on each front `remains unchanged, increases or decreases depending on the place`.

ISW: Russia fears a new cross-border raid before the election

The US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) published the latest report stating that Russia is using conscripts to protect its border with Ukraine and predicts there will be many incursions by volunteer forces.

Military analysts say this may be due to Russia’s reluctance to redeploy troops from the front line to other areas.

ISW is monitoring posts by Russian military bloggers, who note that the intrusion occurred days before Russia’s March 17 presidential election and warn that similar incidents could occur in the future.

Representative of the General Directorate of Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR), Andrei Yusov, said on March 12 that militia units of the Russian Free Corps and the Russian Volunteer Corps and the pro-Kiev Siberian Battalion participated in the clashes.

Russian sources initially denied reports of an incursion, but later said the Russian military repelled attacks by pro-Ukrainian forces supported by tanks, armored vehicles and aircraft.

Video released on March 12 shows pro-Ukrainian forces operating near Nekhoteevka and Spodaryushino in the Belgorod region and Tetkino in the Kursk region.

Notable comments from ISW on March 12 are as follows:

First, pro-Ukrainian organizations – including the Russian Free Corps and the Russian Volunteer Corps and Siberian Battalion – conducted a limited cross-border raid into Russian territory in the Belgorod and Kursk regions this morning.

Second, the New York Times reported that the Russian and Ukrainian armies have different advantages and disadvantages in electronic warfare (EW) capabilities.

Third, the annual 2024 threat assessment by the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin `may believe` that the Russian military has hindered Russia’s efforts.

Fourth, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on March 12 announced an emergency military aid package worth 300 million USD for Ukraine.

Thursday, Lithuanian and French authorities are expected to meet in Paris in the coming days to discuss increased support for Ukraine.

Sixth, the Kremlin recently made a number of personnel changes in the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian National Guard, and the Russian Military Command.

On Saturday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia will leave the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) if the CSTO fails to meet certain Armenian expectations.

On August 12, Russian troops made confirmed advances near Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Donetsk amid ongoing trench fighting along the entire front line.

Ninth, the Kremlin is considering raising taxes, possibly as part of an effort to increase federal revenue to serve the special military operation in Ukraine.
