(Dan Tri) – Russia warns that the war in Ukraine could get out of control and spread due to the `inconsiderate actions` of one or two members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Speaking to reporters on March 13, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the situation around Ukraine is becoming dangerous and risks are increasing.

`Due to the thoughtless provocations of even one or two European Union (EU) or NATO member states, the crisis in Ukraine could completely go beyond geographical borders, taking on a large scale.

Ms. Zakharova said that Moscow believes that the West is `on the edge of the abyss` and pushed the world to the edge of the abyss with its actions towards Ukraine.

`Accordingly, today’s question is how to avoid further escalation risks,` Ms. Zakharova emphasized, advising the West to abandon the idea of defeating Russia strategically and stop supporting Ukraine.

She further noted: `The West will have to learn to calculate not only its own geopolitical ambitions but also the legitimate interests of other countries.`

The Ukraine conflict has led to a serious crisis unprecedented in the relationship between Russia and the West since the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.

Since the conflict broke out more than 2 years ago, the West has continuously provided economic, military and humanitarian aid to Kiev.

The West is grappling with how to support Kiev against Russia, which now controls nearly a fifth of Ukraine and is rearming much faster than the West and Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced last month that the West does not rule out the idea of sending troops into Ukraine, although there is currently no consensus on this issue.

Russian President Vladimir Putin then warned that if the US and its Western allies sent troops into Ukraine, that action could seriously escalate the conflict, even sparking a nuclear war.

In an interview with domestic media earlier this week, Mr. Putin declared that Moscow is ready to use nuclear weapons if there is any threat to the existence, independence, and sovereignty of Russia.

In another related development, speaking before the European Parliament on March 13, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo warned that Russia is preparing for a `long-term conflict with the West`.

`It is clear that Russia is preparing for a long-term conflict with the West and is a long-term military threat to Europe,` the Finnish leader said.

Therefore, Mr. Orpo called on NATO and EU member countries to increase defense spending and strengthen defenses.
